Diet & Nutrition

Stay Hydrated

Drink at least 8–10 glasses of water daily. Ileostomates especially need to be mindful of hydration as they lose more fluids through their stoma.

Eat Small, Frequent Meals

Eating 5–6 smaller meals throughout the day rather than 3 large ones can help manage output and reduce gas.

Introduce New Foods Gradually

After surgery, reintroduce foods one at a time so you can identify which ones affect your output or cause gas or odour.

Chew Thoroughly

Chewing food well aids digestion and reduces the risk of blockages, especially for ileostomates.

Watch High-Fibre Foods

Some high-fibre foods like nuts, seeds, and raw vegetables can cause blockages. Cook vegetables well and eat them in moderation initially.
